One of my favorite photos of Christmases gone by is one of Seth, 9-years-old at the time, shoulder deep under the tree, digging for presents with his name on them. It’s classic kid at Christmas behavior, isn't it? The fun of finding a new batch of wrapped gifts and wondering which ones might be for you.
Of course, as believers, we give gifts at Christmas because of the greatest Gift-giver Himself, Who came that blessed first night.
His life was a gift to us.
A gift that showed us the glory of God by walking in perfect obedience to the Father.
A gift that showed us the depth of His love by giving Himself on the cross.
A gift that showed us the power of His Divine nature by taking His life back up again.
A gift that showed us God is always near, listening to every request, inviting every burden, providing for every need, filling us with every good gift; especially the good gift of the Holy Spirit Who came from the Father and the Son to give eyes to see the greatest gift the world has ever known: Jesus.
Now that’s a gift worth digging for.
“And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened…if you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” Luke 11:9-10, 13
